Success Story

Kris

In 2001, Kris made an exciting transition from living with family and in group homes to living independently. Resilient from fearing the unexpected, Kris was supported by a communicative staff in living at his deeply cherished one-bedroom apartment. With our Independent Living service, Kris receives support for his medical appointments and continuously gains valuable knowledge through life-skills classes. This has provided Kris with many opportunities, including success in his hobbies and career. He enjoys biking, participating in Special Olympics, and writing poetry, including two self-published anthologies titled THE PYRAMID OF PERSPECTIVES and THE EXPECTATIONS OF EXCELLENCE. In addition, Kris started employment at OFA in 2004, where he has grown from an Administrative Assistant to a Direct Support Professional. Kris continues his service with us as a well-accomplished individual who pursues instilling healthier habits for himself and continuing his independence.

“I firmly believe that my childhood experience in living in group homes and being an individual served by the San Andreas Regional Center destined me to be what I am today, and I cannot be any happier to get a chance to inspire others to live out their stories with my support!” –
